CUSTOM WALK-IN FREEZERS

BUILT FOR FROZEN STORAGE

Every custom walk-in freezer we build starts with your space, your product and the temperature it needs to hold. Freezers require more design considerations than coolers, from panel thickness and R-Value to floors, heated vents and doors.

Our sales team works with our design and engineering teams to get every detail right and build your freezer to your exact specifications.

OVERVIEW

Custom walk-in freezers for every application

Frozen storage asks more of a walk-in than cooler storage does. Our custom walk-in freezers are built around your product, your door traffic and your site, with panels, doors and refrigeration selected to work together as one system.

OUR PANEL TYPES

We recommend 5-inch or thicker HDR or FUSIONFRAME® panels for walk-in freezers. Wood frames and 4-inch panels meet minimum requirements but carry a greater risk of condensation.

Wood Frame

The Traditional Choice

Wood-framed panels are a proven, cost-effective option for many cooler and freezer applications. They’re a familiar standard across the industry and work well where moisture exposure is limited.

HDR Rail

No Wood Frame

High-Density Rail panels replace the wood perimeter with a high-density polyurethane rail, carrying insulating value all the way to the panel edge. For freezers, we recommend HDR panels 5 inches or thicker to reduce the risk of condensation.

FUSIONFRAME®

Proprietary Solution

FUSIONFRAME embeds a structural wood core in polyurethane foam, combining the strength of wood with the R-Value of foam. It limits vapor infiltration, moisture absorption and icing in the joint space, and its R-Value doesn’t degrade over time the way wood does. It performs comparably to wood-framed panels in span tests while allowing up to 50% less heat to flow through the freezer.

WHAT YOUR WALK-IN FREEZER NEEDS

Freezers require more than thicker panels. Every walk-in freezer we build includes the floor, venting and door components needed to hold temperature and prevent frost and ice buildup.

HEATED VENTS

Pressure Equalization

Heated pressure relief vents balance the air pressure inside your freezer so doors open easily and panels stay protected.

INSULATED FLOORS

Required for every freezer

Every walk-in freezer requires floor panels or an insulated floor. We match your floor to how you use it, from foot traffic up to pallet jacks and heavy loads. Larger freezers may also need underfloor venting or heating below the slab to prevent frost heaving.

FREEZER DOORS

Heated for a Tight Seal

Heated doors, sweeps and thresholds prevent frost and ice buildup so your door seals tight at every opening.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Don’t see your question? Our team is happy to help.

What temperature does a walk-in freezer hold?

Our panels are rated for operating temperatures down to -40°F, so we can build freezers for standard frozen storage and lower-temperature applications. Tell us your target temperature and we’ll spec the panels and refrigeration to hold it.

We recommend HDR or FUSIONFRAME panels for walk-in freezers. FUSIONFRAME combines the strength of wood with the R-Value of polyurethane, and HDR uses an all-polyurethane rail. We don’t recommend wood-framed panels for freezer applications.

We recommend panels 5 inches or thicker. While 4-inch HDR panels meet the DOE minimum R-Value, they carry a greater risk of condensation depending on temperature difference and humidity.

Yes. Every walk-in freezer requires floor panels or an insulated floor. The floor type depends on how you use it, from foot traffic to pallet jacks, and larger freezers may need underfloor venting or heating to prevent frost heaving.

Some coolers, like meat or beer coolers, hold temperatures below 32°F and should be built to freezer specifications. Our team will help you determine what your application needs.
